Birupes simoroxigorum spiderling • 5/8″ (Sarawakian neon blue leg)

Description

This listing is for Birupes simoroxigorum spiderlings. B. simoroxigorum, with the common name, Sarawakian neon blue leg, is a delicate semi-terrestrial found in Sarawak, Malaysia on the island of Borneo. B. simoroxigorum lives among Sarawak rainforest litter, webbing abundantly along and even above ground. It is a speedy spider. Females reach about 4 inches.

B. simoroxigorum spiderlings are dull grey-brown, acquiring neon blue legs with advancing instar.

As always, we keep spiderlings on slight dampened substrate, limiting ventilation to allow humidity to build. B. simoroxigorum webs mainly on substrate surface and includes a web hide and entrance. Room temperature (68-72F) is fine, although warmer temperatures to 80F hasten appetite and growth. As long as substrate is kept slightly dampened–not wet, not dry–health will be excellent.

Why B. simoroxigorum? It is a medium-small terrestrial, or better said semi-terrestrial, that has glaringly neon blue legs. Appearance and interesting webbing habit set it apart from other hobby species.

Care highlights:

• slightly dampened substrate
• elevate humidity by restricting ventilation
• room temperature (68-72F) up to 80F
• less enclosure moisture for juveniles & older specimens
• include forest litter and plantings for enrichment
