Description

Nhandu tripepii comes from a limited area in northeast Brazil. Climate in this region is equatorial, similar to that supporting Acanthoscurria geniculata found slightly to the north. Vegetation is tropical rainforest, as shown in this scene from the locality (Belem).

Belem nature park

In captivity, N. tripepii spiderlings thrive at room temperature (68-72F/20-22C) and slightly elevated humidity (75-90% RH). You’ll find N. tripepii hardy, active and reasonably fast growing. Temperament is moderate so best not to handle it, particularly because many find its flicked hairs very itchy.

Care highlights:

  • slightly dampened substrate for spiderings
  • elevated humidity (75-90% RH) +/- water dish support
  • room temperature (68-72F) up to 80F
  • juveniles & older specimens can be kept on a drier substrate
  • an opportunistic burrower, consider a hide
  • consider forest litter and plantings for enrichment
