Description
Among the Chilobrachys, Chilobrachys fimbriatus from India has hobby favored status. No other species has similar color and pattern.
It’s hot and humid where C. fimbriatus lives. It’s a burrower, but if you use only a few inches of substrate you may see C. fimbriatus more often than not. Adult females grow to 4-4 1/2 inches.
Keep your spiderling over slightly dampened substrate: 1 part water to 10 parts dry substrate. Limit ventilation only enough to allow humidity to build. Room temperature (68-72F) is fine. Higher temperatures to 80F will hasten growth, but with heat comes dryness. So check substrate moisture more often.
We typically advise hobby newcomers not to start with Old World tarantulas. The reason is tarantulas like C. fimbriatus can turn on a dime and insert fangs and venom before you know it. Respect this spider, keep hands and fingers away. Its venom is likely medically significant.

Care highlights:
- slightly dampened substrate for spiderings
- elevated humidity (75-90% RH) +/- water dish support
- room temperature (68-72F) up to 80F
- juveniles & older specimens can be kept on a drier substrate
- consider forest litter and plantings for enrichment
