Description
Listed for sale are Cyriocosmus aueri spiderlings. C. aueri, the Peruvian red-legged dwarf, is from Amazonian watershed, northeast Peru. A true dwarf tarantula, C. aueri females grow only to 2-2.5 inches.
C. aueri‘s pale legs contrast smartly with the dark carapace and abdomen. The abdomen bears a reflective, heart-shaped, urticating hair patch. Temperament is docile, although this little spider can dash off your hand pretty quickly. Juveniles and older specimens have medium drought tolerance and may be considered low maintenance. Females may live 6-8 years.
We raise C. aueri spiderlings on slightly dampened substrate: 1 part water + 10 parts dry substrate and limit ventilation to allow humidity to build. For juveniles and older we use less substrate dampness, less humidity. Room temperature (68-72F) is fine although growth is faster at 80F. A water dish can be useful to insure against dehydration, especially if ventilation is liberal.
C. aueri is an opportunistic burrower so it’ll take advantage of a hide. Spiderlings have a tendency to dig and adults may bury and web a shallow dwelling under flat pieces of cork.
