Description
Here we list captive-bred Davus sp. “Panama” spiderlings for sale. The lava tarantula, Davus sp. “Panama,” has enchanted hobbyists for years. I think it’s been near the top of most hobbyist’s lists at one point or another. A dwarf tarantula from Panama rainforest, D. sp. “Panama” is an opportunistic burrower. In captivity it tends to excavate under flat pieces of cork or seal up hide entrances with soil and web. Administered live prey will often be consumed at night when the spider emerges. Growth is moderately fast and temperament is even.
We keep spiderlings of D. sp. “Panama” on slightly dampened substrate with ventilation limited to allow humidity to build. Typically we use 5.5 ounce sauce cups until they reach an inch or so. We then advance to larger, drier enclosures but include a water dish to allow them to adjust hydration state as they please. We often include a damp corner, but let it dry from time to time. We use the 72F, the upper end of room temperature (68-72F).
