Description
Available for purchase are captive-bred Grammostola pulchripes spiderlings. Otherwise known as the Chaco golden knee, G. pulchripes lives on the subtropical dry plains of northern Argentina and its neighbors. Along with G. pulchra, A. chalcodes and T. albopilosus, the Chaco golden knee is worthy of consideration as a first tarantula. Medium-large in size, the color pattern and gentle disposition of G. pulchripes persuade many to collect it. Drought tolerance, low maintenance and longevity should be added to the list of favorable attributes.
We raise G. pulchripes spiderlings on slightly dampened substrate: 1 part water + 10 parts dry substrate. We limit ventilation enough to allow some humidity to build. For juveniles and older specimens we use less dampness, less humidity. Room temperature (68-72F) is fine although growth is faster at 80F. A water dish can be useful to ensure against dehydration, especially if ventilation is liberal.
Growth is on the slow side, but with proper care, female G. pulchripes can easily reach 6 inches and live on the order of 20-25 years.

- water and ventilate to achieve a slightly humid environment
- room temperature (68-72F) up to 80F
- calm, may flick hairs if disturbed
