Description
Beautiful new species like Guyruita cerrado, the savanna rock dwarf, spoil us. This New World tarantula is a cocoa-brown dwarf with a Christmas tree pattern on its abdomen. It’s native to subtropical, dry savanna (cerrado). Guyruita means to go underneath rocks in Tupi.
Spiderlings here are well started, safely past the first few molts. Their carapaces are dark and bands show on their abdomens. They’re taking 1/4-inch crickets well.
Keep your specimen on slightly dampened substrate (1 part water:10 parts dry substrate) and ventilate conservatively to allow humidity to accumulate. As they mature, gradually establish somewhat drier conditions.

Care highlights:
- slightly dampened substrate for spiderings
- elevated humidity +/- water dish support
- room temperature (68-72F) up to 80F
- as they mature they’ll gain in drought tolerance
- a hide (or rock facsimile!)
- consider forest litter and plantings for enrichment
