Description
Lasiocyano (ex. Pterinopelma) sazimai is an all-blue New World tarantula. Commonly known as the Brazilian blue or Sazima’s tarantula, L. sazimai is an opportunistic burrower. It inhabits a large area known as the Atlantic Forest in eastern Brazil. The region is dotted with caves and steep escarpments, the result of weathering on sedimentary bedrock. Night-day temperatures here range from 60-80F midwinter to 70-90F midsummer.
In captivity, L. sazimai spiderlings thrive in the range of mild to moderate humidity. Juveniles and older L. sazimai show fair drought tolerance.
Young spiderlings can be kept safely on slightly dampened substrate (1 part water:10 parts dry substrate). Limit ventilation to allow humidity to build. Room temperature (68-72F) is good, warmer temps up to 85F are ok. Temperatures greater than 80F might hasten drying so consider adding a water dish both for drinking and to keep some moisture in the air.
We favor housing juveniles and older L. sazimai on a slightly dry substrate, adding a water dish as insurance against misjudging humidity.
At a leg span of 2.5 inches your sling will begin to show blue! Females grow to 4+” inches.

- elevated humidity +/- water dish support
- room temperature (68-72F) up to 85F
- juveniles & older specimens do well on drier substrate
