Description
Lasiodora klugi come from a semi-arid region in Brazil. It’s called the Caatinga and has both wet and dry seasons. L. klugi are opportunistic burrowers, which means they occupy already existing shelter, including burrows abandoned by other animals. Thus, you’re likely to see L. klugi in captivity, the amount depending on how you arrange things. They grow to a huge size, which makes it hard to hide :-)
Because spiderlings do better with more humidity than adults, keep your L. klugi spiderling over slightly dampened substrate. Limit ventilation only enough to allow humidity to build. If you mix 1 part water with 10 parts dry substrate you’ll be fine. Exactly how much ventilation depends on temperature. We use room temperature (68-72F). Warmer temperatures to 80F are fine, but will increase evaporation. Therefore, adjust ventilation for your room conditions.
You’ll find L. klugi hardy, active, and reasonably fast growing.

Care highlights:
- slightly dampened substrate for spiderings
- elevated humidity (75-90% RH) +/- water dish support
- room temperature (68-72F) up to 80F
- juveniles & older specimens can be kept on a drier substrate
- an opportunistic burrower, consider a hide
- consider forest litter and plantings for enrichment
