Description
Ornithoctoninae sp. “hai bia” is a relatively recent introduction to the hobby. The name belies precise locality, but language suggests Vietnam. Adults have a lovely patterned brown abdomen and a tan carapace with interrupted foveal rays. Femurs contrast with rich chocolate brown. O. sp. “hai bia is a rainforest obligate burrower. It may be kept like Chilobrachys or Cyriopagopus. The bite of O. sp. “hai bia”is likely medically significant. Read up on Old World tarantulas before buying and take proper precautions. Keep hands and fingers away.
Place your spiderling on slightly dampened substrate and limit ventilation only enough to allow humidity to build. Our substrate recipe is 1 part water, 10 parts dry substrate, mixed well. Room temperature (68-72F) is fine. If you use warmer temperatures, consider adding a water dish as dehydration insurance. Juvenile and older specimens are a bit more drought tolerant than spiderlings.
