$60.00

Ornithoctoninae sp. “Vietnam silver” is a fossorial tarantula found in Vietnam rainforest. Adults look like they’ve been spray painted from above with silver blue enamel. O. sp. “Vietnam silver” sits in a burrow of its own construction, waiting for passing prey. Because it is an Old World species, keep hands and fingers away. Recommended for keepers with intermediate experience and above. Photos: 1,2-one of the specimens for sale (ArachnoEden)

Description

Ornithoctoninae sp. “Vietnam silver” is an earthtiger from Vietnam. Climate in Vietnam, as for southeast Asia in general, is 8 months of wet season, including monsoon season, followed by 4 months of dry.

Female O. sp. “Vietnam silver” mature at about 5 inches. By then the tops of the carapace and abdomen are a pale, silver blue, distinctly unusual. In the abdomen one can see faint tiger stripes. Femurs tops also show a bluish sliver blush. O. sp. “Vietnam silver” is an obligate burrower so you’ll see it digging a tunnel and hiding in it. From here it will lunge at prey and drag it into the tunnel.

O. sp. “Vietnam silver” likes water but not wetness. Spiderlings in particular should be kept over slightly dampened substrate. Our recipe is 1 part water mixed with 10 parts dry substrate. Limit ventilation only enough to allow humidity to build. Room temperature (68-72F) is fine although growth is faster at 80F. If you use warmer temperatures, consider adding a water dish as insurance against unintended dehydration.

Why O. sp. “Vietnam silver? Silver blue femurs and color evolution from spiderling to adulthood.
