Description
Pamphobeteus sp. “flammifera” is also known as the Ecuadorian fire bloom. It has has been in the hobby for enough years that most hobbyists are familiar with the name. Females grow large, up to 7 inches in leg span. Freshly molted specimens are essentially black, with pale copper carapace markings and reddish brown hairs on the abdomen. Adult males show extensive fiery pink throughout.
Keep spidelrings over slightly dampened substrate with moderately elevated humidity. Build humidity by limiting ventilation just enough to allow water vapor to rise. Room temperature (68-72F) is fine. Warmth up to 80-85F will speed growth, but note, with warmth comes dryness. A water dish can help stave off dehydration if you wish to use higher temperatures.
As your specimen grows it can be kept under a wider range of conditions. You’ll be able to increase ventilation and limit substrate dampening to only half the enclosure or less. A water dish may still be helpful though, depending on how vigorous you ventilate.
We have not seen this species burrow, but it will use a hide if provided.
