Description
An interesting species from Ecuador, specifically the environs of Santo Domingo according to the given name. Pamphobeteus sp. “goliath Santo Domingo” is said to reach up to 9-inches in leg span. This size quote stands out as somewhat unusual. Perhaps it describes an upper limit, not the expectation?
As an undescribed species, not much is known about P. sp. “goliath SD.” Those who have raised them have followed general recommendations for Pamphobeteus in general. In brief, keep spiderlings in moderately elevated humidity, 75-90% RH. Boost humidity to this level with slightly dampened substrate and moderate ventilation restriction. Adjust ventilation to allow humidity build up. Room temperature (68-72F) is fine. Warmth up to 80F will speed growth, but note, with warmth comes dryness. A water dish can help stave off dehydration.
Substrate should be slightly damp not wet. Wetness encourages microbial growth. As your specimen grows it can be kept under a greater range of conditions.
We have not seen this species burrow, but it will use a hide if provided.
