Description
Thrigmopoeus truculentus (lesser goa mustard) is a medium-size burrowing terrestrial from India’s Western Ghats. Color and pattern are subtle, apt camouflage one suspects. Your specimen will web extensively along the substrate-wall interface. Once established it will sit at its tunnel opening and take prey readily. This spider is fast. Note, T. truculentus is an Old World species–no handling.
T. truculentus is also a hardy species and grows moderately quickly. Room temperature (68-72F) is fine although growth will be faster at up to 80F. Humidity in the range of 60-80% RH will help prevent dehydration. Spiderlings generally do better at the higher end of this range. You can achieve the humidity target with slightly dampened (not wet) substrate whilst adjusting ventilation as needed. A water dish may afford a safety net of sorts whilst you perfect enclosure conditions. No need for a hide, in a matter of days your spider will use substrate, web and adjacent surfaces to make itself a home!
