Description
As this Bumba horrida female already shows, thin tapered legs and short black setae set it apart. Appearance is elegant and delicate, different from the typical tarantula look. Color is black with a bright port-wine to pale maroon carapace. The B. horrida female listed here will grow to about 4 inches.
Commonly known as the Maracá black rose, B. horrida is a lovely tarantula from Maracá, an island in the Amazon. Maracá is the size of Rhode Island. Temperatures on Maracá hover around 80F year round. Annual rainfall is 60.4 inches yearly. In comparison the Everglades get 40-60 inches yearly.
Care for this B. horrida female by setting up an enclosure with slightly dampened substrate. Room temperature (68-72F) is fine. Temperatures to 80F are okay provided water access is secured. Ventilation should be slightly restricted to allow modest build up of humidity. As she matures, she’ll thrive in drier enclosure conditions.
B. horrida has been bred overseas and in the US, presenting no unusual requirements.
