Description
Listed for sale are captive-bred Dolichothele mineirum spiderlings, the Brazilian flame ghost.
Originally described under the name Oligoxystre mineirum (2007) [1], this species as well as all former Oligoxystre are now Dolichothele. D. mineirum is a dwarf tarantula native to the Atlantic Forest, Brazil. This spider isn’t yet quite as familiar as the more common D. diamantinensis or even D. rufoniger. The color of captive adult females of D. mineirum is in the blue-violet range. More specifically, adult female D. mineirum should show a distinct flame patch at the forward-most point on the dorsal abdomen (see below).
Keeping has proven unremarkable, conditions used for D. diamantinensis are sufficient. Like its close cousins, D. mineirum is an opportunistic burrower. It’s also a very fast-moving spider.
