Description
Listed here is a Eupalaestrus campestratus subadult female tarantula, captive bred. Commonly known as the pink zebra beauty, E. campestratus is native to Brazil, Paraguay and northern Argentina. As those familiar with the region already know, E. campestratus is sympatric with many Grammosotola species. Both are found in the subtropical savannah grassland that extends across the borders of the three countries.
Although less widely known than Grammostola and Aphonopelma, E. campestratus is equally suitable for consideration as a first tarantula. Medium in size, females may reach 5-6 inches. Color pattern consists of a grey to grey-brown base, darker in rump, mask area and femurs, with reddish-brown hairs highlighting the abdomen and appendages. Legs have pale stripes.
We’ve had this female since 2023. She has grown about an inch in that time. We expect her to live another 20 years or so with good care. Like her Grammostola cousins, E. campestratus is low maintenance. They eat well but grow slowly.
For juveniles and older specimens, such as the female listed here, we use slightly dry substrate and keep humidity only a bit higher than that of typical room air. Room temperature (68-72F) is fine although growth would be faster towards 80-85F. A water dish can be useful to ensure against dehydration, especially if ventilation is liberal.

Care highlights:
- slightly dry to dry substrate for juveniles and older
- water and ventilate to achieve a dry to slightly humid environment
- room temperature (68-72F) up to 80-85F
- consider a hide, savannah litter and plantings for enrichment
