Climate here is temperate and although it snows in winter, temperatures are not extreme. Forests prevail. Dalhousie average temperature on winter nights is 4C (39F). June is the warmest month, with an average temperature of 22.5C (72.5F), peaking at 27.4C (81.3F). The heaviest rains occur in July and August.

This H. himalayana female will grow to 4+”. (Males mature at a smaller size.) We keep her at room temperature (68-72F) over slightly dampened substrate with ventilation limited only enough to allow a bit of humidity to accumulate. The species is hardy so other keeping conditions will surely do provided one satisfies her water requirements.

H. himalayana demonstrates good appetite and moderately fast growth. As with other Old World tarantulas, be careful around her. Keep hands and fingers away. Use catch cups for transfers.

We recommend H. himalayana for advanced beginners and above.
