Description

Listed for sale is a juvenile female Lasiocyano (ex. Pterinopelma) sazimai. Sazima’s tarantula is an all-blue New World tarantula. All blue is remarkable and reason enough for considering further.

Commonly known as the Brazilian blue, L. sazimai is an opportunistic burrower. It’s native to the Atlantic Forest of eastern Brazil. The region is dotted with caves and steep escarpments, the result of weathering on sedimentary bedrock. Higher altitudes within the Atlantic Forest host L. sazimai. Night-day temperatures here range from 60-80F midwinter to 70-90F midsummer.

In captivity, L. sazimai spiderlings thrive in the range of mild to moderate humidity. Juveniles and older L. sazimai (and indeed sometimes spiderlings) show fair drought tolerance.

This female specimen was raised from the young spiderling stage at room temperature (68-72F) on slightly dampened substrate (1 part water:10 parts dry substrate). Currently we maintain her at room temperature on slightly dry substrate, limiting ventilation to allow a bit of humidity to build. From time to time she’s given a water dish to help ensure hydration. In general, a well-hydrated tarantula won’t dive into a new water dish. Sometimes we misjudge and they do it.

At a leg span of 2.5 inches your sling will show rich blue! Females grow to 4+” inches. Temperament is fair. If held she’ll crawl about. Sazima’s tarantulas rarely posture or flick urticating hairs.

Why Lasiocyano sazimai? You like the idea of owning a blue tarantula. Tarantulas of modest size appeal to you–bigger than a dwarf, but not large.
