Description
Listed is a Psalmopoeus cambridgei female tarantula. Otherwise known as the Trinidad chevron tarantula, P. cambridei is an arboreal from subtropical forest on the island of Trinidad. The species has been around for a long time, longer than many keepers have been in the hobby. Color pattern leans toward camouflage with soft tans and brown. Color pattern and arboreal habit persuade many to collect it. Medium in size, females grow to 5+ inches. Happily for the keeper, they do not flick hairs.
We raise P. cambridgei spiderlings on slightly dampened substrate: 1 part water + 10 parts dry substrate and limit ventilation enough to allow some humidity to build. For juveniles and older specimens, such as the female listed here, we use less dampness, less humidity. Room temperature (68-72F) is fine although growth is faster at 80F. A water dish can be useful to ensure against dehydration, especially if ventilation is liberal.
P. cambridgei grows moderately quickly. With proper care, females can live on the order of 10-12 years.

Care highlights:
- semi-dry to dry substrate for juveniles and older
- water and ventilate to achieve a slightly humid environment
- room temperature (68-72F) up to 80F
- consider vertical structures, forest litter and plantings for enrichment
