Description
Tapinauchenius rasti is an arboreal from the Lesser Antilles, living in web cast among rocks and trees. It is a beautiful tarantula cloaked in iridescent purplish olive and greenish brown. The look is not unlike that of its cousins, for example, T. cupreus and T. plumipes. Behavior is also similar. All of these species are super fast, i.e., experts at teloportation. Escapes during transfers still happen here.
T. rasti needs water but not wetness. Place your specimen over slightly dampened substrate (1 part water + 10 parts dry substrate) and limit ventilation only enough to allow humidity to build. It may be difficult to establish proper humidity given the large number of holes in many commercially available enclosures. You may need to tape over some holes. If you use a meter, 75-90% RH should be fine.
Room temperature (68-72F) is fine. If you use warmer temperatures, a water dish can provide dehydration insurance.

Care highlights:
- slightly dampened substrate allowed to partially dry
- slightly elevated humidity +/- water dish support
- room temperature (68-72F) up to 80F
- consider vertical structures and plantings for enrichment
