Description
Theraphosa blondi was the very first of the 3 Theraphosa described: Theraphosa blondi (1804), Theraphosa apophysis (1991), and Theraphosa stirmi (2010).
T. blondi is the true goliath birdeater. That name sometimes seems to be blindly applied to the other two, leading to some hobbyists buying the wrong spider it seems.
Native to French Guiana and extending into neighboring states, T. blondi is rainforest creature. It thrives in warmth and humidity. By far the most important factor in raising Theraphosa spiderings is humidity. You can achieve proper conditions with slightly dampened substrate (1 part water + 10 parts dry substrate), limiting ventilation enough to allow humidity to build. Room temperature (68-72F) is fine. Warmer is ok, just know heat makes things dry out faster.
As your pet grows it will tolerate a wider range of enclosure conditions. We prefer drier substrate and continued elevated humidity.

Care highlights:
- slightly dampened substrate +/- water dish to support humidity
- elevated humidity, adjust ventilation to achieve
- room temperature (68-72F) up to 80F
- consider hide, forest litter and plantings for enrichment
