Description
Listed for sale is a juvenile female Xenesthis immanis. This X. immanis juvenile is a good entry specimen for those considering their first Xenesthis. Firstly, juveniles are a tad more robust than lower instars. Secondly, X. immanis has been in the hobby for decades and it’s easy to find background information. Lastly, X. immanis tends to be less expensive than some of its rarer brethren.
The type locality for Xenesthis immanis is Bogatá, Colombia. The city sits above 8,000 feet, on a vast plateau with its own climate. Daytime temperatures rarely exceed 70F. Humidity is in the range of 70-85% RH. On this cool, humid plateau grows subtropical savanna and, Xenesthis immanis. It follows that room temperature (68-72F) and elevated humidity are good starting points for your X. immanis.
Juveniles and older specimens are more drought tolerant than spiderlings. We use the same substrate, slightly dampened substrate, for all, but increase ventilation for juveniles and above. In larger enclosures we tend to use substrate dampness gradients, dry at one end and damp at the other.
We use the high end of room temperature, 68-72F. Those who live in warmer climates may have indoor summer temperatures upwards of 80F, which is probably okay. Attend to water as it will evaporate faster the warmer the temperature. A water dish may help avert unintentional dehydration. The exact measures you need will ultimately depend on the enclosure, its ventilation and your home’s climate.
