Description
Appreciated for bright pink metallic accents on the mature male, Pamphobeteus sp. “platyomma,” otherwise known as the Ecuadorian pink bloom, is notable for size and dark brown-to-black shades in females and immature males.
There are some uncertainties as to the origin of the original Pamphobeteus platyomma (nomen dubium); hence the trade name, Pamphobeteus sp .”platyomma.” The locality of this species is likely western Ecuador.
Nonetheless, P. sp. “platyomma” remains one of the more sought after species in the Pamphobeteus genus. A lighter color variant has even been introduced.
